Kristiina Lassus

www.kristiinalassus.com

The rug collection by Kristiina Lassus, architect, designer and design manager born in Finland, is inspired by travel, far-off cultures and traditions, love for weaving and colour, and nature.

From a passion for ancient traditional handicraft but with a modern insight, it is devised to furnish contemporary spaces, whether modern or classic, in the city and country, conceived for people who appreciate special quality and beauty.

It is in travelling intensively to India and Nepal that she manufactures her collection of rugs, knotted by hand, made with traditional handicraft techniques that require a long manufacturing process, about 3-4 months for each piece. The natural materials she employs are mainly hand spun wool and linen.

Every small step in the production stage slowly leads to a precious outcome rich in nuances, steeped in history and customs handed down from generation to generation. Every piece is unique and original.

The rug collection won the international RedDot Award in 2008 and in 2010 and they are produced in limited series and are available by order. No child labour has been used in the creation of these carpets.
